Top of the Honeycomb To Ya
Despite the fact that Golden State fielded a team that was more apt to play the Greensboro Swarm than the Charlotte Hornets, the Hornets did something that should shock everyone: they handled business.
Yes, the start was slow. Yes, it was a sloppy mess. Yes, all the warts showed at inopportune times. It doesn’t matter, they got the dub and find themselves at .500 later in the season than anyone in civilization expected them to be.
Which sets up a bittersweet week that includes the return of the greatest player to ever don the purple and teal, Kemba Walker. That said, the Hornets play four games in the span of five days, if the Hornets remain .500 or above after this stretch, it’ll be a miracle.
I want to do something different for game previews at the beginning of the week. The best way to come together is two ways, with food and with sport. So I asked myself, why not combine the two. Which works for me since I’m my own editor and no one can really tell me no. So without further adieu, lets get cracking.
(Editor’s note: IN NO WAY are any of the places I’ll recommend are paid endorsements, they’re just places I’ll go to….often)
November 5th/ Indiana Pacers
I don’t want my first food recommendation to be something you can’t properly experience before the game. But for this game, I gotta recommend Luisa’s Pizza on Montford. Why I’m recommending them is for their pizza buffet and being one of the few places offering a brick-oven pizza buffet for lunch.
Now you’re probably wondering what a pizza buffet and the Pacers have in common. The answer is this: What better way to welcome both Jeremy Lamb AND the Hornets after a four game road trip out west. Plus pizza has the ability to make you soft in the middle, which the Hornets are (they’ve given up a league worst 57.7 points in the paint).
November 7th/ Boston Celtics
This one is simple, it’s Fitzgerald’s right by Spectrum. My recommendation for you is to drink a little bit of liquor before heading in or watching the only national game the Charlotte Hornets have this season.
Kemba Walker is coming back to Spectrum, he’s going to score 50 and he’s going to remind us of everything that we lost. So drink, be responsible about it, but drink. We’re all going to need it.
November 9th/ New Orleans
New Orleans sans Zion Williamson is coming to town. This one is a simple recommendation and one you’ve likely heard from me on multiple forums : it’s Po’Boys. They close at 8pm, so go there and get your grub on at the best fried seafood spot in Charlotte city limits.
As for the game, this is likely the most winnable game before next Wednesday’s game against the Grizzlies (of note: next week’s slate of games are INSANELY winnable). Get you some good cajun food and enjoy the win.
ONE FINAL NOTE:
Oh, one final thing, there are some folks wondering if the Hornets are gonna win too many games. Honestly, who cares? The fact that we’re prognosticating that the Hornets are going to win enough games to make the playoffs TWO WEEKS INTO THE SEASON is ridiculous. Let’s just enjoy the season. It’s not hard. The Hornets themselves have emphasized transition for a reason guys. It’s time that the fans do that as well, transition ourselves to look beyond wins and losses and just look for the great moments and go from there.
Album of The Day:
Tumbleweed Connection is an album I didn’t really get into until about six months ago. The Elton John and Bernie Taupin connection is dynamite here and there are bangers for days on this. “My Father’s Gun” is my standout track for this, but even then just listen and float away, thank me later.
As always, if you like it, share it with a friend. Subscribe so that this cuts through the digital noise and goes straight to your email inbox. More importantly, just enjoy the ride and I’ll see you guys on Wednesday.
