All Too Well
Familiar Heartbreaking Song as Jokic and Murray are too much for the shorthanded Hornets
“And I know it’s long gone and there was nothing else I could do
And I forget about you long enough to forget why I needed to”
Stop me if you’ve heard this before, but the Charlotte Hornets made a valiant effort against a good team while shorthanded.
If we’re really honest, the Denver Nuggets gave a C-Plus effort on the road at a weird time. Which makes games like these so agonizing to watch because if the Hornets had one more guy, then they at least make the Nuggets sweat for this win. As it stands, this is another one of those games where the Hornets are competitive in the 1st half thanks to the youth of the team and then the Nuggets through veteran guile and skill pull away in the 2nd half.
Hornets fans know the feeling of those kind of games this season all too well.
Brandon Miller is still working the rust off: Four for 10 from behind the arc is some of the good stuff. One for nine inside of the arc isn’t. I made the mistake of being a smidge too critical in the moment on Twitter but down the stretch, there was a lot of timid rookies afraid to shoot. The fact that Miller got really deep in the paint on dribble penetration is a good thing, as Brandon gets his legs under him a little bit better those shots should fall.
Kon had a rough night: If you weren’t certain, Kon was at the top of the scouting report for Denver. Shots were not easy to come by early, and the early foul trouble also took him out of rhythm. It’s nothing to worry about for now, but it is something to note going forward.
KJ Simpson rebound?: KJ Simpson was actively toxic in Friday’s tilt vs Toronto. KJ Simpson showed glimpses of solid PG play and gave the Hornets a bunch of found money in the 1st half. 16 points, 5 rebounds in 30 minutes is a solid effort for someone who didn’t show this before tonight.
The Light is coming on for Liam: Liam McNeeley is coming along slowly but nicely. Four of five from distance, career high 13 points. But these performances are starting to become regular for him. I wrote Liam needed a run in Greensboro with Tidjane a few weeks ago, to go from THAT to looking like he’s going to be just fine is a testament not only to him, but the developmental staff.
Fin.
